What Is Old Pigment Removal?
Old pigment removal refers to the process of lightening or fully removing unwanted or outdated permanent makeup. This is commonly done for clients with previous eyebrow tattoos, eyeliner, or lip blush that have faded to undesired colors, shifted shape, or become too saturated over time.
Using safe and effective techniques like saline removal or laser treatments, old pigment can be gradually broken down and lifted from the skin, preparing it for a fresh and improved application.

Who Needs Old Pigment Removal?
This service is ideal if you have:
-
Discoloured or uneven permanent makeup
-
Asymmetrical or poorly placed older work
-
Saturation that’s too dark for a new procedure
-
Changes in style preferences or facial structure
Whether you want complete removal or just lightening to correct and refresh, we tailor the treatment to your specific goals.
How Does Pigment Removal Work?
We typically use saline removal, a chemical-free method that involves implanting a salt-based solution into the skin to lift the old pigment to the surface. Over the following days, the body naturally heals and expels the unwanted pigment through scabbing.
Multiple sessions may be needed depending on the pigment’s depth, color, and how saturated the previous work is.
Is It Painful?
Discomfort is generally mild and comparable to the sensation of the original permanent makeup procedure. A topical numbing agent is used to keep you as comfortable as possible during treatment.
Healing & Aftercare
Healing usually takes 7–10 days. Some redness, scabbing, or slight swelling is normal. It’s crucial to avoid picking or scratching the area to prevent scarring and ensure optimal results.
You’ll be given full aftercare instructions to support healing and pigment release.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The number of sessions varies by individual. Some clients see noticeable lightening after just one or two treatments, while others may need more depending on the saturation, color, and how long ago the work was done. Sessions are spaced 6–8 weeks apart.
When Can I Get New Permanent Makeup?
Once the old pigment has sufficiently lightened and the skin is fully healed, you’ll be ready for new, corrective work. This timing is discussed during your consultation, but typically clients can proceed after a few months.
Is It Safe for All Skin Types?
Yes, saline removal is generally safe for most skin types and tones. Unlike laser removal, it works well on a broader range of pigment colours and carries a lower risk of hypopigmentation on darker skin.
